Ok, so I know I use a lot of words that many will not know, so this will be my guide to help you understand what I am talking about in my posts… If at any time I write something you do not know, please feel free to ask and I will add it to the list. These are everyday words for me and I forget sometimes not everyone will understand or know what I am meaning…

    German Words

Word Meaning with a little explanation
Brötchen (bread) Roll [This roll has a very hard outside but a very soft inside. Most Americans like to open them up and only eat the inside, leaving the outside for the birds.]
Walkplatz I do not know the actual spelling of this word, but this is as close as I can get with sounding it out… It is a street designed for walking, not driving. It is lined with stores with apartments on the upper floors.

    Military Terms

Word Meaning with a bit of explanation
BX (PX) A Military store, much like a Wal*Mart. One can buy clothes, shoes, bathroom supplies, kitchen supplies, towels, bedding, some furniture, yard supplies, office supplies, books, cards, cleaning supplies, etc. Ideally, they are there to sustain the military without needing to leave the base…
    Commissary Military grocery store.
Shoppette This one is a bit harder to explain… It is like a convenience store. 90% of the time, they are connected to the gas stations, so it is where you would get your gas, drinks, snacks, etc. They are also the Class 6 (sometimes), where we rent our movies, and they have some cleaning items. Most of the time, if they are smaller ones, they only have generic stuff you would find in any Gas Station store. If they are bigger ones, you can find anything from baby food to a mop.
Class 6 Where the military get their alcohol. Only Class 6 (and the clubs) are allowed to sell it. They tend to have a good selection of coolers, beer, hard alcohol, and wines…

After school today, I took the kids to the big park on base. It was a fight to get Derric to go, one that resulted in him having a major meltdown and crying fit. I think four years in an apartment wasn’t that great for him, he doesn’t like going outside now. It is such [...] […]
